Pregnancy and Lactation Support

Congratulations you are pregnant!  Pregnancy will be a wonderful time in your life and I will do my best to keep you healthy for the next 9 months.  There are number of treatments that may support your pregnancy and minimize pregnancy complications. Commonly, pregnancy-related conditions can be broken down by trimester:

  • In the 1st trimester, we focus on miscarriage prevention, preventing neural tube defects, treating pregnancy nausea and vomiting, treating anemia and others.
  • In the 2nd trimester, your pregnancy-related symptoms are usually minor and you get a few months of reprieve.  Nonetheless, anemia, back pain, infections, anemia and other conditions may require treatment.
  • In the 3rd trimester, we focus on managing acid reflux, constipation, varicose veins, back pain, bladder infections (if any), vaginal infections (if any), insomnia and preparing you for labour.

My PhD is in Pharmacy where I studied natural interventions in pregnancy and lactation.  Based on my background, I have a keen understanding of what deficiencies may lower your rate of conception and increase your risk of miscarriage.  I also am a world expert on natural product pharmacology in pregnancy. Lastly, I am the Head of the MotherNature Network of the Motherisk Program at the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, Canada.  With these tools, I am well suited to provide you with safe and effective treatments for fertility, pregnancy and lactation.

There are a number of pregnancy complications that may require treatment, such as pre-eclampsia, pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, placental abnormalities (accreta, previa and abruption), infection (chicken pox, group B strep, herpes), clotting disorders, deep veins thrombosis, elevated cholesterol and others.  I will also recommend supplements that may assist with labour and minimize labour complications and improve post-delivery recovery

In addition you may also have existing health conditions that require treatment during pregnancy, such as hypothyroid, diabetes, obesity, elevated cholesterol, depression, anxiety, insomnia, constipation, IBS, fatigue, adrenal fatigue, stress management and many many others.

After delivery, you may also need support with breastfeeding and post-delivery complications.  These can include mastitis (breast infection), nipple/milk duct infection, breastfeeding difficulties, post-partum depression, pain, slow wound healing and others.  I can assist you in the treatment and prevention of these.
