As one of the largest primary-contact health care professions in Ontario, chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system. Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the
spine, muscles, nervous system and joints.

Joint dysfunctions occur as a result of the stresses of everyday life such as poor or prolonged  postures, repetitive movements, accidents, and sports activities. As a result, these dysfunctions may cause inflammation, pain, muscle tension, and biomechanical changes that may interfere in the function of the nervous system. Pain, headaches, stiffness or tension, decreased range of motion, weakness, numbness and tingling are the most common signs of muscle and joint dysfunction.

A chiropractor will evaluate the joint motion in the spine and extremities and then correct these joint restrictions by using a combination of adjustments, modalities, soft tissue therapy, and rehabilitation exercises. Multiple regions of the body are assessed as the area of complaint may not be the source of the problem. The human body has the capability to compensate for the altered biomechanics caused by joint dysfunctions and muscle imbalances. As a chiropractor, these issues are addressed and corrected to ensure faster recovery, optimal function, and to prevent future recurrences.

As part of the recovery process, exercises and/or specific stretches will be prescribed as a component of active care for the patient.
In addition, acupuncture, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, physiotherapy and massage therapy are often used to complement chiropractic treatment.
